What is Stewardship: Faith to Lifestyle
The dimensions of Stewardship extend beyond the understanding many church members have of Stewardship;
that is time …talent …treasure. Only a community of faith coming together can do that for itself.
Stewardship does not mean having to focus on increased giving (but part of it can). Far more important
than understanding the concepts of time, talent, and treasure is a faith to lifestyle change.
Stewardship, by example, is a simple inner peace that Christ is first in one’s life.
Stewardship Gifts: Time, Talent, and Treasure
Time, talent, and treasure are the three components many Christians associate with Stewardship Programs,
especially treasure. In one way, this is valid since Stewardship Programs often manifest themselves as
efforts directed at increasing member gifts of time and talent to church ministries and activities, or to
increasing financial giving through sacrificially giving programs. In fact, time and talent efforts, and those
efforts to teach sacrificial giving, are closely related and affect each other. Time and talent have a greater
long-term positive effect on sacrificial giving, than do sacrificial giving programs. On the other hand, even
minimal efforts aimed at improving current giving will result in an immediate, and sometimes substantial,
short-term increase in giving to the Sunday collection. The challenge, however, is to institute a program
designed to retain this increase over the long-term.
